Last month I was about to finish my journey, after 9 months living in Texas and 1 month traveling around America and Canada. Last stop: 16 hours in St John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada. The 16 worst hours of my trip with heavy rain, cold, wind, no food at the airport… but here’s why I am telling you that:
I’ve met a lot of people, students, parents, grand parents and random people on the road. When I tell my story, they would telling me how lucky I am to be able to travel around the world… I know, I am aware of that and I am thankful to have the opportunity to do so. Because traveling is the most beautiful thing you can ever experience in your life.
But here is the thing though: travel isn’t ALWAYS pretty. Obviously I try to talk about my adventures, telling how awesome it is to travel and live abroad. Spain, America, I post my best pictures online, talk about how happy I am. But it is not (always) how the reality is.
The reality is also being sad, crying alone on a saturday night, facing storms, rain, carrying heavy bagpacks, going to the hospital, breaking your camera, being robbed, losing money…
Sometimes travel hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that’s okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind. » Anthony Bourdain
But at the end it is what makes your adventures beautiful.
